Our Vision

Missionaries for Christ Ministries (MFCM) is a charitable ministry that provides food, clothes, emergency, and recreational services to homeless and low-income people residing in downtown Los Angeles, California (Skid Row area) — including the greater Los Angeles community. MFCM also visits and provides gifts and encouragement to patients confined in nursing home facilities.

MFCM began as a small group of volunteers devoted to their Christian faith and its calling to aid those less fortunate. They started by providing assistance to homeless individuals, typically delivering food and other basic goods to shelters and skid row residents. As the homeless population grew, more individuals seeking to help with relief services increased. Hence, the general purpose of MFCM soon developed into a broader assignment. The organizational mission emerged into one that identifies and provides aid to under-served people in Southern California — as a means of fulfilling the calling and obligations of its volunteer’s faith.

MFCM members, partners and donors give generously of their time and resources to meet the needs of the poor and nursing home residents. In accordance with Matthew 25:31-40, we believe it is our responsibility as Christ’s followers to help those in need.

With over 40 years of service, MFCM has fed, clothed and helped thousands of homeless people. Through the combined efforts of MFCM and a local church, many Skid Row residents are now living more productive lives. They are employed and living on their own – – some have even gone on to obtain their GED and attend college!

Our History

Sister Carrie Mae McCray received the vision from God to start a homeless ministry while she was a patient in Kaiser Hospital. On September 13, 1981, Sister McCray and
fourteen faithful saints met in her backyard and began to work the vision into a plan. The ministry was based on Matthew 25:31-40, and continues to be our supporting
Scripture today.

THEME SCRIPTURE – Matthew 25:31-40
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He
will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
